If there’s one defensive lineman in college football who could contend for the Heisman Trophy for the first time since Jadeveon Clowney did, it has to be Texas A&M’s Myles Garrett. The former five-star defensive end committed to the Aggies back in 2013 and has dominated college football since 2014.

It’s obvious that the transition from high school competition to college is a tough one, but Garrett made it look so seamless. He recorded 53 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks to go along with nine quarterback hurries.

Garrett’s 6-foot-5, 262-pound frame is perfect for being able to handle big offensive linemen and he does a fantastic job of using his size to his advantage. Not many defensive linemen look the way he does and it could be argued that he’s an even more impressive defender than Clowney was at this point in his career.

The future No. 1 pick had an even more impressive sophomore year, recording 59 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks. Garrett’s imposing frame allows him to get a solid step on opposing linemen, leading to his 24 total sacks in just two seasons.

Don’t expect him to stick around for a senior year, though.
