Sure, the guy is a bit weird but coaches like Jim Harbaugh are why college football is great.

Despite my deep and abiding devotion to Florida State, I think I love Michigan Wolverines’ coach Jim Harbaugh. He made far too much of a fuss over the satellite camp ban, but honestly, anyone that goes toe-to-toe with Nick Saban is my hero.

Yes, Saban is a great coach; but he is also an evil little elf that obviously has ties to the dark side. Nobody can win that many games and not have wicked little minions sacrificing goats or something.

Regardless, Harbaugh now has my vote for the most colorful coach in the NCAA. (And that’s really saying something when you have grass-eating smart alecks like Les Miles with whom to compete.)

First, the guy did a rap song. It was unintentionally hilarious, but anybody who is that willing to make a fool of themselves in a national arena is frankly awesome. I wish he’d take over from Trump—he’d get my vote. If he weren’t a good coach, his cheekiness would just be ignored, but Harbaugh is a fantastic coach. I won’t be surprised if Michigan goes 7-0 before their collision with Michigan State on October 29. I will not be surprised if they end up in the Big Ten Championship Game, either.

He uses Twitter like a snarky teenage girl, and it’s just fantastic. He has no qualms about getting into it with anyone who disagrees with him. He has some kind of beef with SEC coaches in particular; but as he seems to win most of his feuds on Twitter, it shows a marked, brilliant mastery of the art of sarcasm.

Oh, and the guys hangs out with Jerry Springer—not that amity with the lord of daytime trash television is any kind of recommendation per se, but at least it shows that he has a sense of humor.

Harbaugh is the kind of coach that makes college football so much better than its pro counterpart. The guy is a total loon, and I look forward to watching him all season long. Thank you, Coach Harbaugh—you have stopped college football from taking itself too seriously. I tip my hat to you.
