For many fans it may seem a bit odd to see Purdue ranked this high in anything that has to do with college football, but the Boilermakers weren’t always the doormat they’ve become in recent years.
When your program produces players like Drew Brees, Matt Light, Mike Alstott and Keena Turner, you’re doing something right.
Unfortunately, names like that haven’t emerged from Purdue in some time, and the Boilermakers have only seen 17 total players drafted in the last ten years. But things weren’t always this gloomy. In 1960, Purdue had ten players drafted, and most recently there were nine Boilermakers selected in the 2004 draft.
The biggest Boilermaker bust would have to go to wide receiver Larry Burton, who was taken by the Saints with the seventh overall pick in 1975, and only amassed 44 career receptions.
