Clemson Tigers punt returner Ray-Ray McCloud thought that he had just scored a touchdown, but he had celebrated too early.

Remember back in the day when DeSean Jackson caught what he thought was a touchdown pass until he celebrated too early and dropped the ball before going into the end zone? Well, that happened to Clemson Tigers return man Ray-Ray McCloud on Saturday.

Clemson was on upset alert in the first half against Troy, but McCloud looked like he was going to give the Tigers some breathing room by returning a punt all the way for a touchdown. McCloud juked and cut his way to pay dirt, but got so excited about the big play that he prematurely celebrated, dropping the ball before going into the end zone.

After reviewing the play, it was determined that McCloud did in fact drop the ball before crossing the plane. Here’s the video of the entire play. Clemson fans should probably look away.

Instead of going up 20-10 against Troy, the Owls got the ball back down just three points. The Owls couldn’t capitalize, but they were still down just 13-10 heading into halftime.

Clemson has had some serious struggles in their first two games this season, especially on offense. Quarterback DeShaun Watson was a Heisman favorite, but the Tigers haven’t looked like a national title contender with two close calls against Temple and Auburn.

A strong second-half performance could change the minds of the voters, but so far things are not looking good for the Clemson Tigers’ title hopes.
