The Georgia Bulldogs are in danger of losing to Nicholls State Colonels, leading just 10-7 at halftime.

The Georgia Bulldogs were feeling good heading into Saturday after a strong performance against North Carolina in their season opener. Unfortunately, they came out flat against a Nicholls State team that they were expected to dominate early on.

It was an ugly first half for the Bulldogs. Star running back Nick Chubb couldn’t find anything due to a poor performance from the offensive line. Although he scored Georgia’s only touchdown in the first half, he ran for just 17 yards on nine carries.

Although the Bulldogs’ defense was shutting the Colonels down, Nicholls State was able to squeeze out a late first-half touchdown to go into the locker room trailing just 10-7 at halftime.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is going to be giving his team and ear full during halftime. As a top-10 team, a performance like this is simply unacceptable. The offensive line was sluggish and no one seemed to be treating the game like there was a chance they would lose.

On the bright side, freshman quarterback Jacob Eason showed some signs of his incredible potential in the first half. Eason completed 9 of his 14 passes for 123 yards. Eason split snaps with Greyson Lambert last week, but now it looks like he’s going to be the go-to guy under center for Georgia.

While Eason is getting used to starting under center, he’s going to need the rest of his offense to step up in the second half. If the Bulldogs fall, then they can kiss a chance at a College Football Playoff appearance goodbye.
