College football fans, armchair analysts and journalists are all exceptionally good at overreacting, especially early in the season.

There are two things that have no business showing up in the early part of the college football season…

Rankings, and knee-jerk reactions.

The preseason and early season rankings are just silly. Nobody knows who these teams truly are, nor how the competition really stacks up. But the reactions…oh those just get ridiculous.

The early season is always full of upsets, surprises and players who we never expected to be great. Usually it all calms down and things shape up more like what was expected. Remember in 2014, when everyone counted Ohio State out of it after their Week 2 loss to Virginia Tech?

Yeah, you know that year they ran the table and won the national championship.

There will be ups and downs, peaks and valleys for a lot of teams, coaches and players. Reacting is fine, but sometimes these overreactions don’t even make sense. Here are five that have been floating around since the completion of the Week 2 slate of games.

Honorable mention on this list – Clemson isn’t really that good.

Please.
