The Virginia Tech Hokies fumbled away their 14-0 lead last week against Tennessee and lost 45-24. While the Boston College Golden Eagles exerted their dominance 26-7 on UMass…

Week 2 saw the Hokies and Golden Eagles do a bit of learning about themselves as teams.

The Boston College Golden Eagles let UMass jump out to a 7-0 lead before holding them scoreless the rest of the game. The Golden Eagles scored 26 straight points on offense to end the game.

The Boston College defense could take this team places. They held the UMass Minutemen to just eight first downs and -23 rushing yards in the game.

The Boston College offense just about kept pace with the defense as well. Receiver Jeff Smith led the way. Smith caught five passes for 98 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

The Virginia Tech Hokies fumbled the ball five times last week and hopefully learned a lot about themselves in the process.

The Hokies offense outgained the Tennessee offense 400-330 despite their turnovers. Hybrid wideout Bucky Hodges had three catches for 13 receiving yards in the game.

Hokies receiver Isaiah Ford streak of five games with a receiving touchdown has been snapped.

So one thing’s for sure: the Hokies will need to limit their turnovers this week.

Virginia Tech will also need to play more disciplined. Last week, they had eight penalties for 101 yards.
