The Miami Hurricanes are off to a 2-0 start in Mark Richt’s first year as head coach. The Hurricanes are ranked in the AP Poll for the first time since 2013.

The Miami Hurricanes are off to a hot start in 2016 under Mark Richt. The Canes look to keep things going this week against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

The Hurricanes face the Mountaineers after two weeks of convincing wins. While Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya isn’t off to the greatest of starts, the running game sure is.

Canes running back Mark Walton has 271 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. Backup running back (if you even call it that) Joseph Yearby has 226 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Both backs are averaging 8.5 and 8.4 rushing yards per carry respectively.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers hope to slow all of that down, however. The Mountaineers are 1-1 this season so far, with an overtime loss on the road to Tennessee.

The Mountaineers won their home opener last week against the Old Dominion Monarchs 31-7. App State held the Monarchs to 157 rushing yards in the game and held them scoreless in the redzone.

They welcome an ACC opponent to town for the first time in school history. The Mountaineers play Wake Forest in 2017 as well.

This is the first ever meeting between Miami and Appalachian State. It certainly makes for an interesting game as the Hurricanes travel all the way to Boone, NC for a football game. It is far removed from their Miami landscape to say the least.
