The Vanderbilt Commodores head east to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon . Here’s your preview including betting odds and where you can live stream the game.

We are only in Week 3, and yet, there are potential bowl eligibility implications from this interconference matchup. Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt were both picked in preseason media polls to finish in the bottom half of their respective divisions. Georgia Tech was picked sixth out of seven in the ACC Coastal, and Vanderbilt came in fifth out of seven in the SEC East.  Somewhat paradoxically both somehow also received first place votes — Georgia Tech, one and Vanderbilt, two. However the point remains that a nonconference win could spell the difference between a trip to a bowl game and hanging up the pads early this winter.

Georgia Tech enters the game 2-0 with wins over Boston College and Mercer. The Yellow Jackets opened the season in Ireland taking on Boston College and overcoming a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to win 17-14. Dedrick Mills capped the game-winning drive with a four-yard touchdown run. Mercer put up the expected resistance of an FCS team in a 35-10 rout the following week. Sophomore running back Qua Searcy leads the option offense in rushing yards with 87 yards on just 9 carries. He went 7 rushes for 91 yards against Mercer after being held for negative yards on just two carries against BC. Searcy does have 72 yards receiving on just four catches. As a prototypical Paul Johnson QB, Justin Thomas has no passing touchdowns and less than 200 yards passing combined in two games  but is second on the team in rushing with 85 yards and has a rushing touchdown.

Vanderbilt heads east to Atlanta at 1-1. Their loss came in the season and SEC opener against South Carolina at home. Vandy took a 10-0 lead into halftime, but didn’t put up another point. The Gamecocks tied the game midway through the fourth quarter and Eliot Fry kicked the game-winning 55-yard field goal with 35 seconds to go. The Commodores rebounded against Middle Tennesee State to the tune of a 47-24 drubbing.  Quarterback Kyle Schurmur has been dreadful. The sophomore has completed just 46 percent of his passes for a measly 3.72 yards per attempt and one touchdown. Thankfully the running game has proved effective. Junior Ralph Webb has racked up 308 yards at a 6.3 yards per rush clip and two touchdowns. Sophomore Khari Blasingame has scored three touchdowns and run for 87 yards.

If you pick your college football bets like your quirky NCAA Bracket, the random bits of trivia for the two squads are as follows: Vanderbilt’s mascot the Commodore, is a person that ranks above captain and below admiral in a navy, so he (or she) would easily dispatch even a swarm of stinging insects. Vanderbilt is ranked No. 15 in academics to Georgia Tech’s No. 34. The color palettes are very similar, but with the Vandy black exchanged for navy blue in the Yellow Jacket uniforms to complement their shared gold.
