It was another week of College Football which was full of upsets. This week’s AP poll winners and losers take us to unfamiliar territory.

So far, four teams from the preseason AP top 20 have lost two games already. The Iowa Hawkeyes and Florida State Seminoles saw their rank drop a bit after falling in Week 3. The Texas A&M Aggies, Miami Hurricanes and Louisville Cardinals got the attention of AP voters this week and catapult up the AP Poll rankings.

Losers

Iowa Hawkeyes (No. 11 to NR)

The Iowa Hawkeyes saw their season hit a roadblock in Week 3. Iowa lost to FCS opponent North Dakota State 23-21 on a last-second field goal at home.

The North Dakota State Bison have won six straight games against FBS opponents and the Hawkeyes are their latest victim. Iowa allowed nine points in the fourth quarter and could not hold the lead to close the game.

It is the fourth loss by a ranked FBS team to an FCS opponent. If it helps, North Dakota State has won the last five FCS Championships.

The Hawkeyes defense allowed 363 total yards and most of them were on the ground. The Bison ran for 239 rushing yards.

Iowa couldn’t get anything going on offense for most of the game either. The Bison defense held Iowa to 231 yards of total offense and just 12 first downs. The Hawkeyes had just 34 rushing yards on 25 carries.

It was a rough day for the Hawkeyes to say the least, and now they see their AP poll ranking disappear. The Hawkeyes began the AP Poll as the 17th ranked team.

Whats Next?

The Hawkeyes travel to Rutgers to kick off Big Ten Conference play. It is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
