After a few in conference matchups, we’re starting to get a better feel for how the SEC will shake out. Here are the week three power rankings for the Southeastern Conference.

With SEC conference matchups such as Ole Miss-Alabama, Texas A&M-Auburn, Mississippi State-LSU and Georgia-Missouri, the conference is beginning to sort itself out. Of course there were some non-conference matchups which provided some insight into some teams, looking at you Tennessee, but the SEC still appears to be a conference dominated by the Alabama Crimson Tide and then everyone else.

The SEC West is still the top tier in the conference. Tennessee and Florida have looked good out of the East but Tennessee seems to keep playing down to their competition level, which is worrisome for the Volunteers headed into the Florida game next week.

Here are the week three SEC power rankings, starting with number 14, Vanderbilt.

14. Vanderbilt (1-2)

Last week rank: 12

Week 3 result: 38-7 loss to Georgia Tech

One would have to think that the door for Vanderbilt head coach, Derek Mason is closing and closing fast.

Vanderbilt once again lacked an offense. Ralph Webb only had 69 yards rushing, which 9/10 times means that Vanderbilt will not win the game. The defense clearly didn’t show up prepared to handle the triple option attack from Georgia Tech, which led to an exhausted defense due to offensive inefficiency.

If Vanderbilt had dreams of making it to a bowl game this season, those dreams are pretty much gone at this point. Vanderbilt could make a turnaround, but it will be awfully hard with the remaining teams on their schedule.

Next game: September 24 at Western Kentucky, 4:30pm ET CBSSN
