Playing in the SEC has both its perks and its drawbacks. Affiliation provides a steady stream of marquee matchups to draw fans to the stadium, but it also makes it that much harder to sustain success against such tough competition. The Arkansas Razorbacks have dealt with both sides of that equation, expanding their stadium by nearly 22,000 seats as part of a massive 2001 renovation but also watching attendance in that expanded stadium fluctuate based on the competition.
Arkansas has also suffered somewhat from the fluctuations that come from wining or losing. Their 2006 season, when the Razorbacks won the SEC West and finished with 10 wins, saw average attendance push over 100 percent capacity. On the other hand, the 2013 campaign resulted in the only time that attendance dipped below 90 percent at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. It is no coincidence that the attendance ding coincided with Arkansas’ worst two-year stretch since 1952 and 1953.
Fans of the cardinal and white sometimes seem to take the day off when FCS teams come to town. But when they’re needed to provide full-force volume the Razorbacks’ supporters are among the most vociferous in college football.
