(3-0). Previous: . Navy Midshipmen. 7. team. 2394.

Navy stayed at home last weekend, taking a break after winning two straight AAC games ahead of their showdown with Air Force next Saturday. The Midshipmen have rebounded from the loss of preseason starter Tago Smith at quarterback, rallying behind Will Worth to start the season with three straight wins. Navy’s offense hasn’t been otherworldly, but the defense is holding opponents to just 18 points per game.

The Middies can’t get caught looking too far ahead lest they fall behind in the race for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. After the Air Force game, Navy hosts sixth-ranked Houston in an AAC West showdown. They also face East Carolina, Memphis, and South Florida before the end of October. Then Notre Dame looms immediately in November. Should Ken Niumatalolo’s team manage to run through its schedule, they’ll be a trendy pick for their first New Year’s Six bowl game since the 1964 Cotton Bowl.
