Upset Watch: Possible Week 5 Mid-Major and FCS Upsets
By Zach Bigalke
Memphis at Ole Miss (Saturday/7:00 pm)
Last year Ole Miss traveled to play the Tigers at the Liberty Bowl. They returned to Oxford with an upset loss blemishing their record. This year the Rebels are as loaded as they have been in recent years. Most recently they blew out Georgia at home, but they’ve also lost to tough offensive units like Florida State and Alabama. The offense has been great, but the Ole Miss defense has struggled, ranking 96th in yards allowed and 84th in points conceded per game.
Memphis is no easy test, despite losing their head coach and first-round draft pick QB from last season. The Tigers have seen their offensive numbers rise and their defensive numbers shrink with each passing week. Riley Ferguson has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country after taking over for Paxton Lynch, while the team ranks in the top five in both points scored and points allowed. This game is perhaps both the best chance at seeing an upset this week, as well as the potential upset that would reverberate most around college football.
