Tennessee’s Jalen Hurd fumbles before scoring TD vs Georgia
By Tyler Brooke
Tennessee Volunteers running back Jalen Hurd thought that he had scored a touchdown on Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs. He thought wrong.
Touchdowns don’t always come easy in college football. Even when you think that you’re going to waltz into the end zone, you can find yourself getting humbled in an instant.
That’s exactly what happened to Tennessee Volunteers running back Jalen Hurd on Saturday against the Georgia Bulldogs. In the second quarter with the Volunteers down 10-0, Hurd caught a pass from Josh Dobbs and figured that he would casually stroll the final few yards for the easy touchdown.
Instead, Hurd got absolutely leveled by Deandre Baker a lost the football before crossing the goal line. The Bulldogs were able to recover, preventing Tennessee from putting any points up on the board.
Not surprisingly, head coach Butch Jones wasn’t happy after the play. You can check out the mental error from Hurd in the Twitter video below.

The Bulldogs went on to score another touchdown to take a 17-0 lead. While that was a really solid lead, the Volunteers have been no stranger to trailing at halftime. Just last week, the Volunteers scored 38 unanswered points after getting dominated by the Florida Gators in the first half of their game. They’ve also struggled early on against teams like Appalachian State and Ohio.
Still, when a star player like Hurd makes such a big mistake like that, it has to take the wind out of your sails. The Volunteers are hoping that Hurd will take extra care of the football moving forward.
