Penn State sits at 2-2 on the season and needs a win at home over the Golden Gophers if they are going to have a shot at bowl eligibility. Its been a rough start to the season for Penn State, although both of their losses have come to Pitt and Michigan, the Nittany Lions just haven’t looked like a truly threatening team to any of the top Big 10 teams. A win against Minnesota would show improvement as Minnesota has a better offense than Penn State does. James Franklin needs this win or i’d imagine his seat might start warming up.

Minnesota won a close game against an improving Colorado State squad last Saturday, at home, by a final score of 31-24. The Golden Gophers have looked impressive on offense in their first three games of the season (they have already had a bye week) but the defense has been questionable. Minnesota’s defense has allowed plenty of points to all of the teams it has faced, 23, 28 and 24 points scored by each of their opponents. In order for Minnesota to get this win on Saturday, the defense has to tighten up and cannot allow Penn State to start scoring, other wise Minnesota could get into a shoot-out.

With Penn State needing this win and the game being at home, it would be easy to go with the Nittany Lions to win this one. As much as it may seem that way, Minnesota, as of right now, is a much better team. They have a much better quarterback and the offense can score when it needs to, where Penn State is very turnover prone. The Golden Gophers should get out of Happy Valley with the win.
