College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 5
By Zach Bigalke
When Texas lost to California a few weeks ago in Berkeley, they remained in the AP Top 25. Here’s guessing that Utah barely hangs in as the last team in the rankings this week after their own loss to the Golden Bears. The Utes had seven chances inside the Cal 10 at the end of the game, but they couldn’t get across the goal line. Armand Shyne ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns, Troy Williams threw for 266 yards, and Utah’s offense outgained Cal by 100 yards. They just couldn’t get a winning score at the end.
Kyle Whittingham’s squad has to rebound quickly with Arizona coming to Salt Lake City next weekend. The Utes no longer have the inside track to the Pac-12 South title after sustaining a conference loss, but they will get head-to-head opportunities to regain pole position. A three-game stretch at UCLA, home to Washington, and at Arizona State in late October and early November will make or break Utah’s season.
