Week 5 is in the books and here is who stands out as top Heisman Trophy candidates heading into Week 6.

It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month October with just over half the regular season left to play. Teams are starting to stick out as title contenders while some individual players have been rising on our Heisman Trophy watch list.

While teams like TCU, Michigan State, Florida State and Georgia have been disappointing to this point in the season, there have been a handful of pleasant surprises like Washington, Wisconsin, Miami, Louisville, Nebraska and Houston. Those teams have been soaring up the rankings while the others have been dropping like flies.

The college football rankings are starting to truly take shape before the release of the first College Football Playoff poll of the year. It’s pretty obvious who is going to be in this week’s top 10 after the real contenders have separated themselves from the pack.

Still, who are the top performers from Week 5? There were many standout players such as  Toledo’s Logan Woodside who passed for over 500 yards, in a loss, and BYU’s Jamaal Williams who rushed for 286 yards and five touchdowns. Those two guys faced off on Friday night in an offensive matchup where BYU beat Toledo 55-53.

Those guys might not be true Heisman Trophy contenders, but they did stand out as some of the best performers in Week 5. Who, though, are the top five Heisman candidates after the fifth week of the season?
