8. 2006-2008 Diamond Plate Uniforms
Oregon fans will remember this uniform as the one worn by the Ducks as they controversially defeated Oklahoma at Autzen Stadium in September 2006. Most around the country remember that game for the onside kick that was erroneously awarded to the Ducks instead of the Sooners with 72 seconds remaining. They too often forget that a team featuring Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart and the offense driving for the winning points after that onside kick. Or that they allowed a long kickoff return and enough time for Oklahoma to try a 44-yard field goal that was blocked.
This uniform was one of the earliest and the best-integrated uses of the diamond-plate pattern on the shoulders and the pants, a staple of the team’s look during that up-and-down season. The uniforms were cutting edge not just in their look but in the way they were designed to reduce weight both when dry and when wet. While Oregon only went 7-6 during the year they debuted this look, it remained a staple for several more seasons as Chip Kelly came on board.
