Quarterback Trevor Knight and the Texas A&M Aggies made it look easy in Week 6 against the Tennessee Volunteers. Despite being 4-0 when trailing, the Volunteers could not overcome this deficit…

The Texas A&M Aggies got their sixth victory of the season over the Tennessee Volunteers, jumping out to a 28-7 lead by the third quarter.

The Volunteers would come storming all the way back to tie the game at 35 with 41 seconds left in the game. Aggies kicker Daniel LaCamera could not seal the victory in the final seconds on a 38-yar field goal.

The game would go into double overtime, where the Texas A&M Aggies pulled out the victory.

Knight threw for 194 passing yards and two touchdowns and ran for two scores to lead the Aggies’ offense. Running back Trayveon Williams had 23 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown.

A&M wide receiver Josh Reynolds had five catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. Receiver Christian Kirk had five catches for 35 yards and a touchdown.

The Volunteers trailed by as many as 21 points, their largest deficit of the season but got the score tied the score at 35 even by the games end.

Quarterback Josh Dobbs threw for 394 passing yards and a passing touchdown. He also caught a touchdown pass.

Despite outgaining the Aggies in total yards of offense (677-591) and earning more first downs (31-22), turnovers proved to be the difference for the Tennessee Volunteers in their first loss of the season.

Texas A&M Aggies Defense Played Prolific Despite Giving Up 600+ Yards

Texas A&M gave up the most yards in school history to the Tennessee Volunteers. The Volunteers had 677 yards of total offense.

The Aggies’ defense forced seven turnovers (5 fumbles, 2 interceptions) in the game. The Volunteers played from their largest deficit of the season down 28-7 early in the third quarter. Their comeback to tie the game really tested the Aggies defense.

Texas A&M scored 21 points off Tennessee turnovers. They held Tennessee quarterback Josh Dobbs to just 57 yards rushing and sacked him four times in the game.

It was fitting the Aggies forced a Josh Dobbs interception to close out the game.

Through their first five games, the Aggies have allowed just 15.4 points per game, 13th in the FBS. They are 3-0 against ranked opponents this season and now 4-0 in the SEC.

Knight Could Get Attention as SEC’s Best QB If the Aggies Keep Winning

With the Aggies up just seven points with under four minutes remaining in the game, Knight kept the ball in his hands. And it worked. He ran 62 yards for his second score of the game.

If the Texas A&M quarterback continues to have performances like these, he could start getting some attention as the SEC’s best quarterback. Despite his two interceptions, Knight still guided the Aggies to a good win over a good Volunteers defense.

Knight entered this week third in the SEC in passing yards (1,261), third most in pass completions (98), fifth in passing touchdowns (7), and first in rushing touchdowns (6). The fifth year graduate transfer out of Oklahoma has lead the Aggies to their 6-0 start since 1994.

He has shown that he is a threat on the ground as well as through the air. The Aggies are 3-0 in SEC play entering a week off.

The Aggies play for their SEC lives in Alabama on October 22

A bye week could not come at a better time for the Texas A&M Aggies. They will be off October 14 but then the following Saturday, they face number 1, Alabama.

All eyes will be on Tuscaloosa as Trevor Knight and the Aggies look to upset the Crimson Tide and increase their College Football Playoff hopes in the process.

With the Houston Cougars losing to Navy today, the flood gates open for more crazy possibilities, like two SEC teams in the College Football Playoff. If Texas A&M can find a way to win against Alabama, who knows what else might happen?

The Aggies haven’t beaten Alabama since 2012 and have lost the last three games.

Highlights

Texas A&M will face the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide in their next game.
