Miami had all the momentum in the world in the first half, holding Florida State to just a field goal to take a 13-3 halftime lead in the rivalry game. Then the Seminoles turned things on in the second half, and Mark Richt’s team fell behind and never regained the advantage. They allowed 17 straight points before scoring what looked like the tying touchdown. But a blocked extra point left the Canes

The Hurricanes are set up to have one of the best seasons since they were in their Big East heyday. A home game against North Carolina next week provides a solid test in the division, while the Thursday-night road game in Blacksburg against Virginia Tech could possibly decide the ACC Coastal. The road game against Notre Dame to end October looks less threatening with each passing week. Then all that stands between Miami and their first trip to the ACC championship is a quartet of Virginia, Pitt, NC State, and Duke.
