Two teams with two new head coaches. The Virginia Tech Hokies are currently the hottest team in the ACC since their loss to Tennessee in Bristol. The Syracuse Orange have struggled after getting off to a 1-0 start…

The Virginia Tech Hokies have won their last three games since losing in Week 2 to the Tennessee Volunteers. They are 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in ACC play so far.

In their 34-3 win over North Carolina, they showed that not even weather can stop them from finding a way to win.

In a game filled with windy and rainy conditions from Hurricane Matthew, the Hokies fumbled seven times, but recovered five of them. The defense showed its ready for a new era under new head coach Justin Fuente.

The Virginia Tech offense held the ball for nearly 40 minutes in the game, gaining 264 total yards in the game. Quarterback Jerod Evans threw for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Evans also ran for 49 yards and a score.

The rushing attack gained 189 yards on the day. Running back Travon McMillian had 17 carries for 76 yards.

The Hokies bring in a defense that allows just 237.6 yards, ranked first in the ACC. Against the Tar Heels, they allowed just 131 total yards.

Virginia Tech looks to win another on the road this week against the Syracuse Orange.

The Syracuse Orange have lost their last two games after a promising start under head coach Dino Babers. They are 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in ACC play.

Last week, they lost 28-9 to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Through six games, the Orange have allowed 475.2 yards on defense, worst in the ACC.

Against Wake Forest, they allowed 330 yards. Despite forcing two turnovers, they allowed quarterback John Wolford to run for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the defense, the Orange offense ranks fourth in the ACC with 466.8 yards per game. The issue: scoring points. They are last in the conference currently averaging 1.2 touchdowns a contest.

In the second half against Wake Forest, they punted the ball five times in the second half. Four of those drives were three and outs.

If the Orange hope to win this week, they’ll need to have their offense in order against a very good Hokies defense.
