2017 Mock Draft: 1st-Round Projections through Week 7
The New Orleans Saints could really use some help on defense. They rank last in points allowed (33.6), 31st in total yards allowed (419.4), 30th in passing yards (301.6) and 25th in rushing yards allowed per game (117.8).
That help comes in the form of defensive end Carl Lawson out of Auburn. So far, Lawson has fought off injury concerns, playing in all six of the Auburn Tigers games this season. He has 15 total tackles, six sacks, and seven tackles for loss.
Lawson ranks sixth in the FBS and second in the SEC sacks. He ranks seventh in the conference in tackles for loss.
Questions about Lawson’s motor and health have been answered so far through his stellar play. With recent NFL draftee Sheldon Rankins on the injured reserve with a broken fibula, the Saints certainly should give Lawson a look with the seventh pick.
