After yet another sloppy week by the Big Ten, teams who may not have looked like they had a chance at a top spot now have all the opportunity in the world to make noise in the conference. Here is this week’s Big Ten Power Rankings presented by Saturday Blitz.

14. Rutgers

Week 7 result – 24-7 loss to Illinois

Rutgers had a short glimpse of success in 2016. With back to back losses, though, this season has officially ended for the Scarlet Knights. At 2-5, their chances of making a bowl game are all but forgotten. Like last week’s blowout to Michigan suggested, Rutgers have given up.

A loss to Illinois realistically shut down all opportunity for the Scarlet Knights to move out of the number 14 spot in the Big Ten this season. Unless Michigan State somehow doesn’t win again, which could happen, it’s nearly impossible for Rutgers to impress anyone enough to move up.

Chalk 2016 up as a miss for Rutgers. At this point, they should just start looking for great recruiting classes and move forward.
