Three more Group of Five teams lost their second game of the season in Week 7, leaving just nine schools currently in the hunt for the Access Bowl bid.

Now that all but one of the teams in this week’s Group of Five power rankings has reached the halfway point of their respective seasons, it becomes even more imperative to evaluate the totality of their record. Only two teams remain unbeaten after this weekend, and we are now down to just seven mid-major programs with a solitary loss on their record. All told, there are just 17 teams among the Group of Five conferences that have two or fewer losses at this point.

In the coming weeks, we will begin to include those two-loss teams in the power rankings as the field thins out further. As of now, however, the nine teams that are sitting with zero or one losses retain the best shot at claiming the automatic access to the New Year’s Six berth in the Cotton Bowl. So for now let’s focus on these fine nine as we break down the Week 7 Group of Five Access Bowl Power Rankings.
