The Oklahoma Sooners drew first blood on Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks thanks to a punt return touchdown from Dede Westbrook.

Oklahoma Sooners senior wide receiver Dede Westbrook has come alive over the past handful of games, and he was back at it again on Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks.

Even though the Sooners were heavy favorites heading into Saturday’s game against Kansas, the team still had to go out there and play to win the game. They didn’t waste much time getting on the board to take an early lead.

Early in the first quarter, the Jayhawks punted it away to Westbrook. Thanks to his blazing speed and quick feet, Westbrook was able to elude some would be tacklers and take off for an amazing 71-yard touchdown to give the Sooners a 7-0 lead.

The Sooners have bounced back this season after a couple of losses earlier in the year to Houston and Ohio State. Heading into Saturday’s game, the Sooners were ranked No. 16 in the nation with a 5-2 record.

One of the big reasons for the recent success has been Westbrook. Heading into Saturday’s game against Kansas, Westbrook had caught 35 passes with 10 of them for touchdowns in just the last four games.

As long as Westbrook is playing like he has been over the past month, the Sooners should keep racking up the wins on their way to what Sooners fans are hoping could be a potential New Years Six bowl game.
