The Tennessee Volunteers have lost two games in a row but their season isn’t a total loss. At 5-2 on the season and 2-2 in SEC play, there’s still room to salvage a solid finish. South Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt still remain on the schedule.
The Volunteers face the South Carolina Gamecocks this week after coming off a bye week. They rank 18th in the AP Poll. They’ve lost two of their top defensive players for most of the season in linebacker Jaylen Reeves-Maybin and cornerback Cameron Sutton.Both running backs Jaylen Hurd and Alvin Kamara are sidelined due to injury on offense as well. But they’ve still managed to string together victories.
Defensive end Derek Barnett leads the team this season with six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. Barnett also has an interception on the season. On offense, quarterback Josh Dobbs leads the way with 1,525 passing yards and 14 passing touchdowns. He’s also ran for 293 yards and five touchdowns.

The South Carolina Gamecocks haven’t fared too badly in Will Muschamp’s first season as head coach. The offense ranks last in the FBS in points per game, scoring 14.8 points a contest. The Gamecocks have worked through three different quarterbacks this season.
The offense ranks 13th in the SEC in total yards per game with 317.4. With just 106.9 rushing yards per game, the Gamecocks may need another season of experience before the struggle ends. They average just 3.3 yards per rush in conference play.
Running back A.J. Turner leads all rushers with 300 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
