Texas A&M Aggies wide receiver Christian Kirk is also a pretty good return man, taking a punt return 92 yards for a touchdown before halftime on Saturday against Mississippi State.
The Texas A&M Aggies were on upset alert early on Saturday against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday. Aggies wide receiver Christian Kirk at least did his part to try and close that gap before halftime.
Late in the second quarter, a Mississippi State drive stalled and the Bulldogs were forced to punt it away. The Bulldogs hoped that a punt deep in Aggies territory would force Kevin Sumlin’s team to take a knee and head into the locker room down 28-7.
Instead, Kirk fielded the punt deep, found some space and took off. With the help of some blockers and Kirk’s blazing speed he was able to turn on the jets and go all the way for a 92-yard return touchdown to cut the lead to 28-14. You can watch the video of the return below courtesy of ESPN.
Kirk has been a huge factor for the Aggies in his first two seasons. Heading into Saturday, the sophomore receiver had already put up 446 yards and six touchdowns on 54 receptions to go along with two punt return touchdowns. Kirk can now add a third punt return TD to his resume with that play.
The Aggies were able to sneak into the Top Four of the first College Football Playoff committee poll, but a loss against Mississippi State would essentially end any chances they’d have at a shot for the national title.
