College Football Rankings 2016: Projected AP Top 25 after Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
Once again, Wisconsin won more on the strength of its shutdown defense than any semblance of an offense. The Badgers held Northwestern 100 yards below an already-low season rushing average, and forced a strip-sack of Wildcats quarterback Clayton Thorson that proved to be the only turnover of the day. Paul Chryst’s team committed just one penalty, and maintained possession for over 40 minutes.
With the win they continue to look like the team to beat in the Big Ten West, especially since they hold the tiebreaker over Nebraska and still have fate in their own hands against rival Minnesota. The fact that they also won against a still-improving LSU team in the season opener bolsters their strength of schedule, a large reason why the pollsters and the CFP committee alike have kept them as the highest-ranked two-loss team in their respective Top 25 rankings. That isn’t likely to change this week after another dominant win against an overmatched conference opponent.
