Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald showed off his wheels on an early 74-yard touchdown on Saturday against the Texas A&M Aggies.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs may not be the same team without quarterback Dak Prescott, but they weren’t just going to roll over on Saturday with a tough matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies.

Early in Saturday’s game, the Bulldogs got a big lift from their new starting quarterback, sophomore Nick Fitzgerald. On their opening drive on offense, Mississippi State ran a read option with their talented quarterback who has already put up multiple games with over 100 yards rushing this season.

Fitzgerald made the right read, and thanks to a lead blocker, he was able to keep going and run all the way for a 74-yard touchdown. The big score from Fitzgerald helped put the Bulldogs up 7-0 early in the first quarter.

Heading into Saturday’s game against the Aggies, Fitzgerald had already run for 657 yards and six touchdowns while adding another 1,496 yards and 14 touchdowns through the air. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs are just 4-4 this season and are one of the weaker teams in the SEC.

Still, that’s understandable when you lose one of your all-time best quarterbacks in Prescott during the offseason. It will be a rebuilding process, but a big win over a team like Texas A&M could help this team turn the corner and get ready for the 2017 season.

It’s never easy to compete in the SEC, but the Bulldogs want to prove that they’re not going down without a fight on Saturday.
