SEC Football: Takeaways for Each Team from Week 10
LSU Tigers
LSU 0-Alabama 10
At first glance it appears that this was another lackluster LSU performance against Alabama. The Tigers couldn’t manage 100 yards passing and Leonard Fournette was held to 35 yards rushing. This game was different, though, as LSU was in it late. Had it not been for a poorly managed clock (what?) and a few ill-advised penalties, LSU could have gone up at least 3-0 to break the stalemate.
Instead, Jalen Hurts had a coming out party as a throwing running back. Hurts had 20 carries for 114 yards, much of it late in the second half. LSU played well, though, and Orgeron did nothing to cost himself the chance of removing the interim tag from his name.
Impact Moving Forward
-Pure Uncertainty
While a victory would have likely made Ed Orgeron the no brainer for head coach next season, the disappointing loss leaves doubt. Although LSU played poorly, Alabama’s defense has not been as stingy in years past. The fact that LSU was shut out doesn’t reflect positively on Orgeron, but it also isn’t a huge negative. Orgeron has only had control of the team for a month.
Of note: Fox reproted that Orgeron didn’t need to win this game to secure the head coaching job.
