The Kansas Jayhawks got pretty creative on this trick play on a kickoff return during Saturday’s game against the Iowa State Cyclones.

Trick plays are usually reserved for offense, but the Kansas Jayhawks special teams pulled out a pretty creative one during Saturday’s game against the Iowa State Cyclones.

For Saturday’s game against the Cyclones, the Jayhawks worse solid blue uniforms with red stripes going down the pants. Conveniently enough, those uniforms almost perfect matched the colors in the end zones.

Because of the uniforms, the special teams unit was able to hide a player in the end zone as he attempted to camouflage himself. After his teammate fielded the kickoff, he then threw a lateral pass to the opposite side of the field where he was waiting.

Fortunately for Iowa State, they were disciplined with their kickoff return coverage and were able to prevent too much damage. Still, the trick play was pretty fun to watch. You can check it out in the video below.

When two teams with just a 1-8 record are going head to head, you’re going to get a lot of interesting play calls. Neither Kansas nor Iowa State are heading to a bowl game this season, so the least they could hope for is a few more wins before the season is over.

Considering there was nothing to really lose at that point, we have to give Kansas some credit for coming up with a trick play like this one to at least try and make something happen.
