Big 12 Football: Week 11 Power Rankings
By VF Castro
10. Kansas Jayhawks (Record: 1-9)
Holla, we want camouflage.
Where Iowa State rallied to win, Kansas did what Kansas does and found every way to lose. Kansas currently holds the title for longest active FBS losing streak at 24 games now, and if you’re a Kansas fan, you have to believe that being 0-7 in conference play is rock bottom.
You want to give Kansas a pass because Dave Beaty is only in his second year as head coach, but you can’t because he’s already had two stints with the Jayhawks as its offensive coordinator in 2011, and as its receivers’ coach from 2008-09. He knows the system, and yet his teams manage to blow leads, thus giving him a head coaching record of 1-21 through two seasons.
Quarterback Carter Stanley was 26/38 for 171, with one touchdown, and one interception. In that regard, Kansas is very promising at that position, and the good news is that Stanley is just a freshmen, so he’ll have plenty of time to help with the leadership the Jayhawks so desperately need this offseason.
As is the case with most Big 12 teams, the Kansas pass rush needs a ton of work, too, but with such few expectations, this puts Kansas in an ideal rebuilding phase. They’ll just have to keep laying low until things finally click, but at least Beaty can rest assured he has job security.
