Jameis Winston kept a trend going in 2013, becoming the second straight redshirt freshman to win the Heisman Trophy after Johnny Manziel broke that barrier in 2012. Winston scored 42 total touchdowns and finished with over 4000 yards on the season as he followed in the footsteps of Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke as Florida State quarterbacks who can claim both a national title and a Heisman victory.
In his first season as a starter, Winston went 14-0 with the Seminoles and knocked off Auburn 34-31 in the final BCS championship game before the switch to the College Football Playoff. In the Heisman voting, the FSU quarterback finished with more than three times as many votes as runner-up A.J. McCarron of Alabama. Further, Winston won by at least 200 points in every region across the country, underscoring just how dominant he was for Jimbo Fisher and the Seminoles in 2013.
