It didn’t take long for the Michigan State Spartans to take a lead on the Ohio State Buckeyes during Saturday’s game thanks to a great play call to LJ Scott.
The Michigan State Spartans came into Saturday’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes as big underdogs. However, just because they were expected to lose didn’t mean that they were just going to roll over.
It didn’t take long for the Spartans to start making noise on Saturday. On their opening drive, the Spartans started with a first down on their first play from scrimmage followed by a brilliant play call on their second.
After a play-action fake, Michigan State quarterback Tyler O’Connor tossed a pass to running back LJ Scott on well designed screen. Scott followed his blockers, found a hole and took off for a 64-yard touchdown.
That play helped the Spartans take an early 7-0 lead. You can check out the huge play from Scott in the video below.
That play was the longest pass play the Buckeyes have given up all season, and the first touchdown given up by the defense in nine quarters. That just goes to show you how important a well designed play can be when it’s executed properly.

It has been a devastating year for the Spartans, coming into Saturday with just a 3-7 record. However, if they are somehow able to pull off the upset over Ohio State, that could help them end the season on a more positive note. As for Ohio State, a loss would essentially end any hopes that they would have of making the College Football Playoff.
