The Big East may no longer have football, but a pair of former Big East powerhouses will face off in Pittsburgh on Saturday. Pittsburgh and Syracuse is a far more compelling and consequential game on the basketball court year in and year out. However, the gridiron version has produced some drama of its own.  Last year, the Panthers’ Chris Blewitt hit a 25-yard field goal as the clock ran out to give Pitt the 23-20 win in the Carrier Dome.

The Panthers have dominated the Orange for over a decade now. Pitt has won all three ACC meetings and 10 of the last 11. Syracuse will be attempting to win in Pittsburgh for the first time since 2001. The numbers would suggest this won’t be the year the domination ends. The Panthers are 24-point favorites and have won their last two games including knocking off No. 2 Clemson.

Syracuse was going to be an underdog no matter what going on the road, but the line is inflated because the Orange will most likely be without their starting quarterback Eric Dungey. The sophomore is listed as doubtful and has been out since being injured in their 54-0 loss at Clemson on Nov. 5. Since then, Syracuse lost their next two games, 35-20 to NC State and 45-14 to Florida State.
