North Carolina gift-wrapped the ACC Coastal for Virginia Tech on Black Friday, but Justin Fuente didn’t let his team get too complacent in their battle for the Commonwealth Cup against the Cavaliers on Saturday. The Hokies demolished their rivals to win their ninth game of the year, as the defense held Virginia under 250 total yards of offense in the six-touchdown blowout. Jerod Evans threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another score, while Sam Rogers rushed for 105 yards and two scores on just 15 carries.

Now Virginia Tech will prepare for their showdown with Clemson next weekend in the ACC championship game in Orlando. The Hokies were just outside the AP Top 25 last week, but after wrapping up their division and watching a bunch of teams in the bottom half of the poll lose we should see them return to the rankings. Win or lose in the conference title game, Virginia Tech will probably reach its first New Year’s Six bowl since they lost the 2012 Sugar Bowl in overtime against Michigan after Louisville’s loss.
