Utah had its chances to take down Colorado on the road and prevent their Rocky Mountain rivals from landing a spot in the Pac-12 championship game. Joe Williams rushed for only 97 yards and fumbled twice, while Troy Williams completed only one-third of his passing attempts and threw two interceptions. The Utes couldn’t take advantage of the openings to pull off the upset. While they had already missed out on their chance to play for the Pac-12 title after being upset by Oregon the previous week, Utah showed resolve and nearly dealt Colorado a fatal blow.

Though they lost on Saturday, the Utes should remain in the AP Top 25 this week given that their defeat came against a top-ten program. Kyle Whittingham’s crew had a solid season, even if they fell out of contention, and their reward will be the program’s third straight bowl game. One imagines they’ll probably be headed somewhere other than Las Vegas, though a New Year’s Six appearance is out of reach for the original BCS Busters.
