College Football Week 14: 5 bold predictions
By Jordan Luth
Championship week is here. The CFP is just around the corner. With so much going on, take a minute to check out our five bold predictions for championship week.
The college football regular season is officially over. We now look forward to championship weekend and beyond that, the College Football Playoff. Rivalry week gave us some great games, especially Michigan vs. Ohio State. That will be a meeting between the two teams that will be remembered for a long time.
As we look ahead to championship weekend, the playoff picture is still not set in stone. I feel that after this weekend it may still not be set. The final playoff rankings come out this Sunday and the results of the championship games will have a huge impact on how the teams are ranked.
Most of the controversy seems to be coming from the Big Ten. There is the chance that the winner of the Big Ten championship won’t make the playoff. There’s a chance that two teams from the Big Ten could make the playoff and neither of those teams could play in the Big Ten championship game. How will the committee vote? We’ll find out soon enough. Until then, here are five bold predictions for championship week.
5. Western Michigan clinches a spot in the Cotton Bowl
The Western Michigan Broncos concluded their undefeated regular season with a 55-35 win over Toledo. That win also sent the Broncos to Detroit to play for the MAC Championship. Western Michigan will play the Ohio Bobcats. With a win, Western Michigan should clinch the group of five New Year’s Six bowl berth.
To get the New Year’s Six bowl berth, you must be the highest ranked team from the group of five and you also must be your respective conference champion. With a win over Ohio, Western Michigan will meet both of those guidelines. Navy is the only other team that could possible take the spot from Western Michigan, as they too will be playing in their conference championship. I just don’t see Navy jumping the undefeated Broncos in the rankings. With the win over Ohio, Western Michigan will be going to the Cotton Bowl and will play on new years day.
