1. Michigan and Ohio State meet for a rematch in the playoff

“The Game” truly did not disappoint. Michigan and Ohio State went into overtime for the first time in the rivalry. Ohio State eventually prevailed and most likely clinched a spot in the playoff, even though they won’t be a conference champion. As for Michigan, they fell from three to five in the CFP rankings. They are only one spot out and still have a chance to make it.

If a rematch is truly going to happen, a few things would need to happen to help Michigan get back in:

  1. Washington has to lose the Pac-12 championship game. This is something that I see as very possible. Colorado is a top-10 team and even went toe to toe with Michigan in the Big House earlier this year. A Colorado win would drop Washington from the top four.
  2. Wisconsin and Penn State play a lousy Big Ten Championship game. Even though I feel that neither Wisconsin or Penn State could jump Michigan, based on the fact that Michigan beat both, both teams playing bad would help Michigan stay up.
  3. Clemson plays bad and possibly even loses to Virginia Tech. Ohio State won’t drop from No. 2 so Michigan needs to be No. 3. For that to happen, Clemson needs to show weakness. One game were they don’t look very good at all may be all that is needed.

If those three things happen, we may have a rematch on our hands. The committee seems to favor the Wolverines as well. They may just be looking for a reason to put them back in.
