Sam Darnold almost slips, still converts trick two-point conversion in Rose Bowl

USC Trojans quarterback Sam Darnold was doing it all in the Rose Bowl on Saturday, including making an impressive play on a two-point conversion.
One of the most highly-anticipated bowl games this season was the Rose Bowl, as it pitted the two hottest teams in college football against each other. Fortunately for us, the USC Trojans and Penn State Nittany Lions both came to play.
Monday afternoon’s game was filled with fireworks. After the Trojans took a 27-21 lead into the locker room at halftime, the Nittany Lions surged back with three touchdowns in three plays of offense to take a 42-27 lead.
USC redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Darnold wasn’t rattled, however. In the third quarter, the newest Trojans star was able to lead his team down the field and find JuJu Smith-Schuster on a 13-yard strike in the end zone for a touchdown.
The Trojans decided to go for two and pulled out a trick play. The play was nearly a disaster when Darnold began to slip, but he was somehow able to stay up right and flip the ball to Taylor McNamara for the two-point conversion.
That sequence of events helped the Trojans make it a one-possession game at 42-35 with more than a quarter still left to play.
