When it comes to the recruiting process time is of the essence, and that is something that the new Longhorn’s head coach and his staff just don’t have. It is also uncommon for a reputable program like Texas to have three consecutive seasons ending in a record below .500.

Two months have passed since Tom Herman was named the head coach for the University of Texas, and once again a new era of Longhorn Football begins. Former head coach Charlie Strong left the program with six pledges. Since then, Herman and Co. have added nine commitments to the 2017 recruiting class, including the 6-foot-1, 250-pound linebacker, Gary Johnson. According to 247Sports, he’s the No. 6-ranked junior college prospect and the No.1 linebacker in the JUCO ranks. The Longhorns do have some superior players returning like Williams and Chris Warren III on offense and Jefferson, Hughes and Malcolm Roach on defense.

So far the 2017 recruiting class sits at 15, but these seven guys could be just what Herman and his staff need to fill some voids on both sides of the ball. This won’t be the highest ranked class, but Herman seems to have done his research to make sure that Texas fans don’t experience a disappointing group like in many transition years. Don’t be discouraged though, there are some standout names to look for on Wednesday that should make Longhorn fans hopeful.
