Texas Football: Jordan Elliott, former 4-star DT, announces transfer

Former four-star defensive tackle recruit Jordan Elliott has announced he will transfer from Texas football this offseason.

Texas football is trending in the right direction as former Houston coach Tom Herman has taken the reigns of the program. However, he will have to deal with a big loss up front as sophomore defensive tackle Jordan Elliott has announced his intention to transfer.

Apparently, Elliott posted the news to his Snapchat because there were people who didn’t believe he was actually going to transfer. He stated that “The University of Texas is not the place for me anymore.”

This isn’t a complete surprise as many recruits who commit to a school strictly for their relationship with a coach end up transferring once said coach is let go. Charlie Strong was a players’ coach, leading to Elliott’s transfer once he left.

Will Elliott, a Houston-native, decide to follow strong to South Florida? At this point, it wouldn’t be a major surprise. He played in six games as a true freshman with the Longhorns, recording eight total tackles and 1.5 for loss.

The former four-star recruit from Houston was one of Strong’s prized recruits in the 2016 class, ranking No. 70 overall and as the 10th-best defensive tackle, according to 247Sports. He was expected to be a big future contributor for the program, but this decision to transfer will leave the Longhorns looking for answers and a potential replacement.

Herman has his work cut out for him in Austin, but there’s plenty of talent to go around in the state of Texas. He will just make up for Elliott’s departure with a nice 2018 recruiting haul.
