The 2017 college football season is right around the corner. Here’s a look at the top storylines to watch going in.

The college football season kicks off Friday, August 25. Summer sessions are beginning and a new crop of talent is getting their first taste of the speed of the college game.

While freshman are starting their careers, some players like Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson look to pick up where they left off and then some.

Jackson is one player looking to improve upon the progress he made in 2016. He became the youngest player ever to win the Heisman Trophy after putting up record-breaking numbers.

However, making the College Football Playoff field remains the ultimate goal for many. A lot of seniors returned for their final season in order to get a chance to qualify as one of the top four teams in the FBS.

Quarterback Mason Rudolph (Oklahoma State) and Luke Falk (Washington State) are a few players who despite putting up solid numbers in 2016 still return looking to do more.

The Oklahoma Sooners look to return with quarterback Baker Mayfield under center as well. They’ll be without head coach Bob Stoops, who decided to retire from the Sooners last week.

The 2017 college football season is shaping up to be a good one. Here’s a look at the top storylines to watch for.
