The 2017 SEC football season is right around the corner and one member of the media believes Vanderbilt will win the whole thing.

Derek Mason has been trying to put Vanderbilt back on the map after James Franklin left the program a few years ago. It hasn’t been the easiest uphill battle, but with the SEC football season right around the corner, one media member is giving the Commodores a ton of respect.

In fact, a member of the media picked Vanderbilt to win the entire conference, topping teams like Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU and Florida.

According to Dane Belbeck of theScore, that same media member has some serious explaining to do since they didn’t even pick the Commodores to win the East division. Wait, so how is that possible? It’s not.

Basically, a media member at SEC media days thought it’d either be funny, or bold, to pick Vanderbilt, which finished 6-6 in 2016, to win the entire conference, but they forgot to cover their bases, picking a different team to come out of the East.

How do we know this? The Commodores received one first-place vote to win the SEC title, but zero votes to win the SEC East. Interesting.

While this is likely a young member of the media trying to play a joke, it could mess with credibility. No, not because Vanderbilt is unlikely to win the SEC, which is true, but because they didn’t even believe their own casted vote for conference champion.

Vanderbilt does return one of the nation’s top running backs in Ralph Webb and 16 total starters, but they just don’t have the talent or depth to keep pace with Alabama. Improvement is likely, though.
