Big 12 Media Days kick off on Monday, signaling the return of football to the midwest and scattered geographic foot print of the conference’s teams.

The most coveted interviews will be two of the conference’s newest head coaches: Tom Herman and Lincoln Riley. Herman takes over a Texas program that could never quite get over the hump with Charlie Strong. He’s talked a big game and already made some big strides on the recruiting trail.

Bob Stoops’ sudden retirement sent shock-waves into the college football landscape. Riley is left to pick up the pieces. It’s hard enough replacing an all-time coaching great, but doing so just a few months before the season will only amplify the pressure. We all knew that Stoops wasn’t going to coach forever, but no one foresaw him leaving in the middle of the summer.

After those two there will be some familiar faces. Mike Gunday and Gary Patterson are both good for a witty one liner. Gundy in particular has been known to provide an interesting quote or two.

I’m also interested to hear what remarks new Baylor head man Mark Rhule will make. This is an opportunity to begin to move the program in a positive direction after the scandals that have rocked it over the last year or two. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and it will take years for Baylor to begin again, but all early indications make it seem that Rhule is the right man for the job.
