Tim Bonner of ‘Last Chance U’ wasn’t one of the biggest stars, but he may be a part of resurgent Florida Atlantic football defense in 2017.

FAU has a lot of fresh faces on campus for 2017, including new head coach Lane Kiffin. But the biggest name might be EMCC transfer and ‘Last Chance U’ star QB De’Andre Johnson. Johnson is also bringing one of his former EMCC teammates with him to Boca Raton.

Meet FAU’s new pass rusher Tim Bonner.

Bonner was a three-star DE coming out of high school. He had offers from many schools, but ultimately chose Louisville. After redshirting one year for the Cardinals, he left. He went to junior college powerhouse East Mississippi Community College. And that indirectly landed a role on Netflix smash ‘Last Chance U’.

During his time at EMCC, he recorded 5.5 sacks which was fifth on the team. Some of the players ahead of him were now-West Virginia Mountaineer Ezekiel Rose and now-Mississippi State Bulldog Chauncey Rivers.

As an undersized end, Bonner might not see the field as a starter but he will definitely be given the chance to be subbed in for passing situations. Before he made the decision to go to Florida Atlantic, he was thinking about going to Ole Miss. He was recruited by Chris Kiffin, Lane Kiffin’s dad. Chris is also the new defensive coordinator for the Owls.

Last year, the Owls of FAU only had 23 sacks. Bonner might not start but I would not be shocked to see him given a bunch of opportunities to get to the quarterback. With the combination of Lane Kiffin and De’Andre Johnson manning the offense, the Owls offense should score some points. If FAU is making the opposing offense have to play from behind, Bonner and the defensive line can pin their ears back get after the quarterback.
