College Football: Five big name quarterbacks likely to be benched quickly
With the departure of All-American and National Championship winning quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Clemson Tigers are left searching for answers on offense. There’s two solid options for Clemson to work with at the quarterback position. Junior quarterback Kelly Bryant is the favorite to win the starting job, but he lacks overall experience.
Bryant only has three career touchdown passes. He has rode the pine behind Watson for most of his career so far. And then there’s freshman 5-star quarterback Hunter Johnson sitting in waiting. Johnson promises to be the future of the Clemson football program. That’s hard for a guy like Bryant to hold off very long. One bad game could lead to the starting job being given to Johnson.
Living up to the hype that a National Championship creates is nothing easy for any quarterback to handle, let alone one with the inexperience that Bryant possesses. Could Bryant come in and tear it up early and show head coach Dabo Swinney that he deserves to be the starter for at least the 2017 season? Of course that could happen.
Yet, the chances that Bryant makes it through the 2017 season without at least seeing Johnson start over him once are very slim.
