College Football: Five big name quarterbacks likely to be benched quickly
The Texas Longhorns have made a habit out of disappointing their fans every year since the end of the Mack Brown era. They’re hoping that trend will come to a screeching halt with the addition of former Houston coach Tom Herman. The firing of Charlies Strong was desperately needed to reignite the Texas offense.
Sophomore quarterback Shane Buechele had an up and down freshman campaign that saw him throw 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger sits in waiting for the time that Buechele finds the inconsistencies that he experienced at times in 2016. However, you should expect Herman to give Buechele a little bit longer leash than the rest of the head coaches will give the rest of their QB’s on this list.

The wide receivers need to step up as well for the Horns to help out Buechele. The receiving corps has not been the brightest spot for Texas during the Charlie Strong era. Drops and missed routes have plagued the Horns’ offense since 2014. Expect Buechele to make the most of his opportunity at first but ultimately lose the starting job to Ehlinger when it’s all said and done.
