Oklahoma football’s Chris Robison was dismissed from the program and the long-term effects should not be any more than Lincoln Riley can handle.

If there is one team that has one of the brightest immediate and distant futures at the quarterback position, it’s the Oklahoma Sooners. However, OU did lose former four-star recruit Chris Robison due to a violation of team rules. He was arrested for public intoxication back in April, so this does not seem like an isolated incident if another team violation caused him to get dismissed from the team.
The night Robison was arrested in April was right after OU’s spring game where he threw for 49 yards. According to CBS Sports, this should not have a major impact on OU’s offense this season with how loaded they are at quarterback. Senior quarterback Baker Mayfield owns the Sooner offense and former Texas A&M transfer Kyler Murray lies in waiting.
The impact that Lincoln Riley taking over as head coach will have on recruiting is likely a positive one. Riley runs such a high-powered offense that five-star quarterbacks should be naturally drawn to playing in Norman. If one player like Robison cannot keep it together for even one year at OU then his departure will not have too much consequence for the Sooners.
The Sooners have nothing but time to figure out who the best option at quarterback is beyond even Mayfield and Murray. Moreover, the only team that poses any real threat to dethroning the Sooners in the Big 12 right now is Oklahoma State and they will have a rebuilding season in 2018.

If there’s one thing that OU fans can feel good about it’s that their program is in good hands after the retirement of legendary head coach Bob Stoops. Riley may take some time to adjust to the spotlight but he’ll sure be a force to be reckoned with for many years in the future, even without Robison.
